Remedial

Remedial massage is a deep tissue Natural therapy, that is ideal for clients with chronic pain, creating dysfunction and possible injury. In this case a full body massage isn't always the best choice because of the specific nature of this modality. With remedial we could assess the pain location and functionality, range of motion fluidity or restriction to create the best treatment that compliments our findings.

There are many techniques to achieve great results to assist in pain management, improve range of motion and overall wellness.

How ever being that it is deep tissue in its orientation it is very important that I help my clients. To feel comfortable and safe so there is a good communication flowing. If you have a low pain threshold communication is key in order for the treatment to be most beneficial.

General maintenance massages should occur

every 4-6 weeks and weekly or fortnightly

massages for those with the high activity and/or

stress levels. When deciding how often to get a

massage you it is imperative to examine your lifestyle.

Massage

Relaxation is a gentle full body massage. Using slow, long and smooth techniques to quieten down your central nervous system, increases blood flow, relieves muscle tension and of course so many more benefits that leaves you with a sense of a peaceful calm and relaxed state.

This is especially perfect for clients who suffer from exhaustion, depression, anxiety, lack of focus, sleep disorders,  it reduces blood pressure, relieves tension and inflammation.

Leaving them feeling calmer, having a clearer mind, more positive, concentration improves, less tired, better memory and decision making skills, improves circulation, improves sleep, helps the immune system and the list goes on. Studies have shown that regular Relaxation massage very much helps with all of the results previously mentioned for conditions such as ADHD for example.

The main reason you would choose a relaxation massage is so you can slow down, de-stress from your 9 to 5, or busy life, relax your muscles tension and calm your mind.

Remedial and myotherapy

This is a question most commonly asked regarding remedial massage and myotherapy. To the general public they do appear to be quite similar,
but there's key differences that distinguish
each treatment.

A Remedial Massage therapist  is all about hands on manipulating the muscles and treating the symptoms of pain in the musculoskeletal system and dysfunction where a Myotherapist will treat both the immediate symptoms and the underlying source of the problem.

Chronic pain comes from muscles that don't fire properly, poor posture, exercising incorrectly, injury and the list goes on. Over time all of what I mentioned creates myofascial dysfunction.

Myoherapy

It's thin fibrous sheets of connective tissue that surrounds our muscles and organs although with our tendons and ligaments the myofascia is bundled.  Trigger points form within the soft tissue.  As we remain in poor posture our fascia sees this as our norm and starts to hold us in this dysfunctional pattern; restricting full range of motion within the joints.  End result is pain.

Once the conditions with our muscles and musculoskeletal system become more complex the broader scope of therapy must extend beyond massage as a therapy to treat your client effectively.

What does that mean beyond massage???
Whilst myotherapists do massage in the same way a Remedial Therapist would.
Myotherapists use more advanced techniques to assist and relieve chronic pain or injury.
In particular taping, cupping and needling for example.

Cupping

I offer static and gliding cupping, known as dynamic and stagnant cupping. The negative pressure enables the clients skin to be drawn into the cups. When this happens it's effectively pulling the fascia and muscle fibres, encouraging blood to flow in to the tender area. Once released after a few minutes those tender spots may look like an octopus as gotten affectionate with you (lol). The bruising is temporary (known as ecchymosis), And the evidence of the treatment last for a few days or as long as a week.  It can vary depending on how much tension your client holds.

Yes those tender spots can look very colourful or not but what it has done is lower your pain gait so I can get into the area and assist with pain relief, also your lymphatic system and blood flow (qi)
Functions better.

How often can you have this treatment?

Cupping therapy can be done as often as necessary. For most people, cupping therapy is done once a week. People who are very active for example going to the gym 4 times or more a week....weekly cupping is very beneficial. If you are using cupping therapy for pain relief, you may need to do it more often. Or couple it with myofascial dry needling to get an even faster result

When don't you use cupping?

Cupping isn’t for everyone, even though its considered a safe practice. There are people It is not recommended for. For example people with a pace maker, heart disease,  liver or kidney issues, hemophilia, anemia or similar blood disorders.Blood thinners medication is also a contraindication.

“If pregnant, it has been advised to avoid cupping to the abdomen and lower back,” Ebinger quoted.

Cupping

I use needling with clients that have chronic neuromuscular pain and restricted range of motion.
When inserted directly into the trigger point  within the muscle and fascial lines it releases the tension around  the impinged nerves, and encourages blood flow.
When people have a low pain threshold needles are used to assist the CNS (central nervous system) because there are times the pressure of fingers won't reach the deeper muscles and neural impingement

Not to be confused with acupuncture

This training use meridian points to activate  the flow of energy around the body and vital organs.
There is much evidence to support how needling can treat acute and chronic neck, head, shoulders, elbows,  back, pelvic, knee pain.

The body is a remarkable healing machine and releases chemicals for example endorphins (best natural pain killer on the market) and increases blood flow;  Where the complex neural pathways have been blocked they start to communicate and promotes healing.

Of course there are people have phobias with needles and just don't like them... As a Myotherapist and Spinal Flow practitioner. I call on other methods to help in your healing journey. After the initial treatment, we can discuss a plan moving forward and that can vary depending on the severity of the condition. Generally when the condition is complex and chronic I can safely say investing in yourself is the very best investment you can make...

Initial twice a week  for 3 to 4 weeks is a great start. Immersing yourself allows your body to feel the benefits. We can reassess how you are feeling and responding and make a healthy comparison from the initial visit. Once you see that results are happening we can adjust the regularity of visits.

WHAT ARE THE 7 GATEWAYS?

The 7 gateways of the spine surround the most important organs of the body - your nervous system.
It is essential that there is ease and full movement in each gateway for your health and healing to happen.
Full movement and flexibility allows the nerves to flow out to and supply all the organs and cells of your body which encourages health and healing.

WHAT ARE STRESSORS (BLOCKAGES)

When I look and feel someone's spine I can tell how many layers of stress and tension has been stored.
These stored layers can be PHYSICAL, CHEMICAL or EMOTIONAL stressors that couldn't be processed.
By helping someone heal we are effectively peeling back the layers so you can connect to your LIFE FORCE.

It is my role as your spinal flow practitioner to find the cause, the first blockages on your body, where they are stored and help you release them.

HOW TO FACILITATE SPINAL FLOW
I am able to facilitate Spinal flow in various different positions depending on each situation

If my client is pregnant, Surgery, sprain/strain which makes it uncomfortable to lay face down.

On your back - paralysed, broken ribs,

Seated- wheel chair
